Hate-monger Pfleger: If only they'd murdered another one of my foster children

Okay, not really. But close. Take a look at Hate-monger Pfleger's latest non-apology apology for his ridiculous, hate-filled rhetoric. A snippet (emphasis mine):

Last Sunday, I was invited by Trinity United Church of Christ to come and preach on the topic of race.

I agreed to do so because of my love for Trinity, Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Rev. Otis Moss, III and because all my life I have sought to deal with the reality of racism. As I said, Last Sunday, I have committed myself to tear down the walls that divide us wherever they stand.

In 1966, as a junior in high school, amidst all the hate and meanness that surrounded me in Marquette Park, I heard more than the voice of Dr. king calling for community over chaos. I heard that small voice from within, that said, I am showing you this now, because you must spend your life trying to eradicate this.

The last few days have been the most painful days of my life, even more so than the murder of Jarvis, my foster son.

The whole apology is at the link, in case you think that this "snippet" is taking Hate-monger Pfleger out of context. Not being a baptized believer in the Cult of the Obamessiah, I am speaking with a cynical tongue, but I actually believe Hate-monger Pfleger when he says that this is more painful than the murder of his foster son. Why? Because as with all attention-hungry showmen (secular or religious), it's all about him.

Of course this is more painful, because there is negative attention focused on him, rather than the positive attention of sympathy released by the community after the death of a loved one.

It is more painful, because it might hurt his standing in the community. His life may continue without a foster son. After all, they're replaceable. But what politician will ever let him head a Catholic coalition group again?

That quote only makes sense if your highest priority is yourself. And, if your highest priority is yourself, what kind of spiritual leader will you make? I think we see the answer to that in Hate-mongers Michael Pfleger and Jeremiah Wright.

I love Kentucky: The "Look what they made Hillary do" edition

The best part of this story is that I'm about 95% certain the minister is the father of one of my good friends in high school:

When things couldn't be looking worse for Sen. Hillary Clinton's bid for the presidency in 2008, as her rival Barack Obama closes in on gaining enough delegates to secure the nomination, the former first lady attended a church service in Bowling Green, Ky., Sunday featuring a sermon about lust and adultery.

The hour-long sermon focused on the sin of committing adultery -– as outlined in Mathew 5:27-32.

Paul Fryman of the State Street United Methodist Church asked the congregation, "How is your commitment level in your marriage this morning?’

He spoke about lust and the sin of cheating on your partner. Clinton looked straight ahead as the man spoke about the theme of the sermon, which was: "Come Up Higher When the Devil Whispers Over Your Shoulder."

Ha.

Has any African-American church ever talked about, ya know, the Bible?

Hyperbole, of course. But seriously, I think the black church would be much better off if their ministers were more involved with preaching the gospel and less involved with libeling anyone who doesn't agree with their politics.

This particular rant, I think, says more about the rampant homophobia within the black community that it does about what drew Sen. Obama to Hate-monger Wright.

Fund drive for "Rev." Parrish

Yesterday Gateway Pundit reported that "Rev." Marty Parrish's church has disowned him, stating that not only is he not a minister there, hes not even an active member. Not only that, but Parrish was using his web site to try to make money off of the stunt.

Well, after all hell broke lose in his unmoderated (hint, hint) comments section, Parrish has deleted all the text of the original post, and responded in the comments:

Now I am going to visit each one of you at your home while you are in bed at night asleep under the blankets just after Mother kisses you good night and...

Rev., Hate-monger, and now Wife-stealer Jeremiah Wright.

Why am I not surprised? It turns out that Hate-monger Jeremiah Wright stole the wife of one of his parishioners:

Delmer Reed, 59, confided to pals that he believed the minister moved in on his wife while Wright was counseling the couple at his Chicago church in the early 1980s, The Post has learned.

"That's exactly how he said it," Reed's divorce lawyer, Roosevelt Thomas, told The Post.

"It looks like Delmer might have been right," he said, because after Delmer and Ramah Reed were divorced, she got remarried - to Wright. "Either that or this was the biggest coincidence in the world."

Asked about the relationship between Wright and his ex-wife, Reed told The Post, "Oh, the things I could tell you."

Initially, he didn't believe the rumors.

"People were telling me that my extremely attractive wife was seen with the pastor," Reed said. "But I didn't believe it. I thought, 'So what?' "

Was he wrong in the end?

"Well, yeah," he said.

Maybe Reed's chickens...were just coming home...to roost.

I missed this during Wright's NPC appearance

I was otherwise engaged yesterday, and didn't get to comment on Rev. Wright's appearance at the National Press Club. Michelle Malkin live-blogged it, and this statement during the Q&A session:

Question: Would people of other races be welcome at your church?

“Yes…a white woman stood up at our church and said “I am unashamedly African.”

Huh? So the only way for a person to feel comfortable at Trinity United Church of Christ is to either be "African" or "African in spirit"? I thought the goal of the Christian Church was to unite people as brothers and sisters in Christ regardless of earthly, temporal thins like race, gender, politics, or anything else. Apparently, I was wrong. But then again, I am the White Devil, so what do I know?

He should know, he is the Messiah after all.

At Messiah College in Pennsylvania (a more left-wing Christian school), Sen. Obama defends his earlier remarks:

First question for Obama is about his small-town clingy diss.

Obama’s new spin: “Cling” is in the Bible! Oh, and it’s the government’s fault.

And this is a distraction.

Classic. You see, Christianity not only calls one to point out that the US created AIDS to kill black people and that 9/11 was America's chickens coming home to roost, but it also requires one to point out that people only believe in religion because the economy gets bad. Because Sen. Obama used a word that was once used in an English translation of the Bible, it must be true!

Hate-moner Jeremiah Wright had a middle-class upbringing?

Marty Peretz over at The New Republic has a quote from someone who knew the high school Hate-monger Wright attended in Philadelphia:

I attended Central a few years after Rev. Wright, so I did not know him personally. But I knew of him and I know where he used to live – in a tree-lined neighborhood of large stone houses in the Germantown section of Philadelphia. This is a lovely neighborhood to this day. Moreover, Rev. Wright's father was a prominent pastor and his mother was a teacher and later vice-principal and disciplinarian of the Philadelphia High School for Girls, also a distinguished academic high school. Two of my acquaintances remember her as an intimidating and strict disciplinarian and excellent math teacher. In short, Rev. Wright had a comfortable upper-middle class upbringing. It was hardly the scene of poverty and indignity suggested by Senator Obama to explain what he calls Wright's anger and what I describe as his hatred.

Well, if it wasn't his upbringing and "poverty" that made hm so hateful, what was it?

Wright's "poverty" extended to his higher education as well:

Another old style liberal Chicago politician, State Rep. Monique Davis of Chicago, sponsored the resolution which was passed by the House on March 11. The resolution does not describe a minister who grew up in a segregated South, attending segregated schools, drinking out of separate water fountains, being attacked by police dogs and sprayed by fire hoses. In fact, it says Reverend Wright grew up in Philadelphia, PA – were segregation was not the law of the land and is ironically the same city where Obama delivered his speech.

What the resolution tells us is that Reverend Wright attended integrated public schools in Philadelphia. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Virginia Union University, a Master’s Degree from Howard University and another Master’s Degree from the University of Chicago. Revered Wright enjoyed the advantage of some of the finest education American provides.

Listen, I'm not going to say I know what poverty is like. I don't. But I've seen it, and you don't get Master's degrees when you're in poverty.

The Trinity United Easter Sermon

Did I call it or what? In his Easter sermon, Trinity United's new pastor Otis Moss III reflected on the resurrection of Jesus Christ how Hate-monger Jeremiah Wright is a lot like Jesus, if you think about it:

The new pastor of Barack Obama’s church delivered a defiant defense of its retiring reverend Sunday, comparing media coverage of Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr. to a modern-day lynching that resembles Jesus’ death at the hands of the Romans.

In a sunrise Easter sermon, Rev. Otis Moss III never mentioned Wright by name, but implied that his mentor, who has delivered sermons in which he likened the U.S. to the Ku Klux Klan and declared it damned for its “state-sponsored terrorism,” is facing the same challenges Jesus did.”No one should start a ministry with lynching, no one should end their ministry with lynching,” Moss said.

“The lynching was national news. The RNN, the Roman News Network, was reporting it and NPR, National Publican Radio had it on the radio. The Jerusalem Post and the Palestine Times all wanted exclusives, they searched out the young ministers, showed up unannounced at their houses, tried to talk with their families, called up their friends, wanted to get a quote on how do you feel about the lynching?” he continued.

Classy. Predictable. Retarded on so many levels.

Sufjan Stevens music for Easter weekend.

For those of you who have yet to be introduced to him, Sufjan Stevens is one of my favorites. He's an excellent lyricist, and just happens to be something rare: a talented artists who just happens to be a Christian. I'm posting two songs from him for this Good Friday weekend. The first is titled "To Be Alone With You". Many, including the producers of "The O.C." (who used this track for their show), apparently assumed it was a romantic song. But it seems to be more about the crucifixion (at least in part).

The next song is "Majesty Snowbird", literally the best song I have ever heard in my life. It is just over ten minutes in length, but is the most beautiful, sweeping song I have ever heard. This is the tune I put on when I'm having a horrible day (or week or month) just to remind me how much good there is in the world. A little melodramatic, sure, but just watch:

Mikhail Gorbachev's a Christian

Who knew? This passage really stuck out to me:

Mr Gorbachev's surprise visit confirmed decades of rumours that, although he was forced to publicly pronounce himself an atheist, he was in fact a Christian, and casts a meeting with Pope John Paul II in 1989 in a new light.

Now that Pope John Paul II is no longer with us, I would like to hear what happened in this meeting before Gorbachev is gone and it is too late.

St. Obama in 2007: Fire Don Imus

Doublestandardmania! Catch the fevuh!:

"I understand MSNBC has suspended Mr. Imus," Obama told ABC News, "but I would also say that there's nobody on my staff who would still be working for me if they made a comment like that about anybody of any ethnic group. And I would hope that NBC ends up having that same attitude."

A crusty old shock-jock saying "nappy-headed hoes" is beyond the pale, but saying "God damn America", and then claiming that the Bible backs that kind of sentiment, that's fine.

Anyone who believes St. Obama at this point is still using him as their human Rorschach test.

St. Obama and gay marraige

When His Holiness was running for his Illinois Senate seat in 2004, same-sex marriage was a hot topic in Democrat circles. San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom had recently decided to defy the rule of law and authorize the city to issue same-sex marriage licenses. St. Obama was naturally asked his position on the issue:

"I'm a Christian, and so although I try not to have my religious beliefs dominate or determine my political views on this issue, I do believe that tradition and my religious beliefs say that marriage is something sanctified between a man and a woman," Obama said.

But here is the kicker: his denomination of Christianity supports gay marriage!:

The UCC has been one of the most supportive religious organizations in the fight for marriage equality for same-sex couples. Many UCC clergy members across the country regularly perform same-sex union ceremonies.

How, then, does one arrive at St. Obama's conclusion? Does he find gay marriage incompatible with Christianity based upon his own personal study? Is the position based on political expediency?

It seems as though St. Obama's church (according to him) takes many positions with which he is in disagreement. I understand not believing in every position church leadership has, but I think at some point in the previous two decades as a member I would have begun the search for a new congregation, if not an entirely new denomination.

Is there another Trinity United hate-monger taking over?

I'm honestly trying not to make this an "All Wright, All the Time" blog. Honestly. But there is such a wealth of material here. In his blog post on Wright at the Huffington Post, St. Obama said the following:

When these statements first came to my attention, it was at the beginning of my presidential campaign. I made it clear at the time that I strongly condemned his comments. But because Rev. Wright was on the verge of retirement, and because of my strong links to the Trinity faith community, where I married my wife and where my daughters were baptized, I did not think it appropriate to leave the church.

Emphasis mine.

Wright is being replaced by Trinity's pastor, Otis Moss III. If this is true, I don't think that the problems will stop for Barack Obama. Sean Hannity recently played a tape of Moss from Trinity's pulpit, and he sounded just as antagonistic as Wright did. Also, if you are serving alongside a man as despicable as Wright you would, at the very least, be able to stand by some of his deplorable comments. I don't feel I could stand alongside and serve with a man who preached such vitriol and hatred.

But, back to how this affects St. Obama. Imagine if a member of the Westboro Baptist Church was running for office, and his excuse was "Oh, well, I didn't think about leaving the church because Fred Phelps is retiring." How well would that fly?

Let me say at the outset that I vehemently disagree and strongly condemn the statements that have been the subject of this controversy. I categorically denounce any statement that disparages our great country or serves to divide us from our allies. I also believe that words that degrade individuals have no place in our public dialogue, whether it's on the campaign stump or in the pulpit. In sum, I reject outright the statements by Rev. Wright that are at issue.

i don't know why people are jumping on st. obama like this! don't they know that st. obama's mentor and pastor is just speaking words, and these words don't really matter?

because when it comes down to it, the "crazy relative" excuse doesn't work for you when you have donated money to his church and have been there for two decades. from abc news:

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Obama's pastor for the last 20 years at the Trinity United Church of Christ on Chicago's south side, has a long history of what even Obama's campaign aides concede is "inflammatory rhetoric," including the assertion that the United States brought on the 9/11 attacks with its own "terrorism."

once again, these are statements that probably help him in the demcrat primary, but will not fly in the general. especially when people find out that he is part of the obama campaign.

also, on a more personal note, what kind of christianity is this pastor preaching? it doesn't sound very christian to me. aren't christians supposed to pray for their enemies? shouldn't our devotion be to Christ, and not a particular race or ethinic backround?

Barack took the title “The Audacity of Hope” from a sermon that Wright preached. In 2006, the Obamas gave $22,500 to the church.
