voters in indiana's 7th district handed a andre carson today, in a special election to fill the seat left vacant by the death of his grandmother, julia carson. naturally, since the younger carson is a muslim, it's time for some identity politics:

Indiana voters on Tuesday elected a Muslim to Congress, only the second of that faith chosen in U.S. history.

Andre Carson, grandson of the late Democrat Rep. Julia Carson, was elected to serve the balance of her term in the U.S. House of Representatives in a special election.

i hate to break it to the deciders, but indiana's 7th district has a cook partisan voting index of dem +9. the democratic party of indiana could have nominated julia carson's frankensteined corpse and gotten it elected.
