Lt. Gov. David Paterson (D-NY) is being sworn in at the state capitol in Albany later this afternoon. (Doesn't the Spitzer affair seem like years ago?)
From what I have heard, Paterson is far more liberal than even Spitzer was, but he is also far more personable. Check out JammieWearingFool for more on that, as he wrote the post I wish I'd written.

Paterson has some wacky views
Example: police officers should be shooting at criminals apendages rather than center of mass do that nobady gets killed.
Problem: if you miss, the crook won't be shooting back at your hand.
But the Republicans in NY seem to like him over Spitzer because he's a career legislator who knows how to compromise. Spitzer was a take-no-prisoners, my-way-or-the-highway kind of guy...plus he did freaky things like using the state police to follow around his political opponents.
So, I guess Paterson is preferable to Spitzer in the sense that he will at least try to work with people.
