i think that when one looks back on this election cycle, one will see that hillary hedging on whether or not she supported gov. eliot spitzer's plan to give driver's licenses to illegal aliens was the turning point in the democratic nomination.

i don't think this is entirely accurate, because if one remembers, the benefactor of this slip up, sen. barack obama, fully supports this measure. more than that, he seems to see it as a non-issue:

hillary faltered by not fully rejecting the rule of law in front of a democrat audience. that is what could have cost her this election, not her support of spitzer's licensing measure.
